We have been asked by Paris based advertising agency
DDB if we could create a Facebook game for
BMW Mini, using Google Maps to let the players drive where ever they want
around the world.
Not to be fooled by the simplicity of the concept, the technical complexity meant
we needed a highly skilled technical team to make this work.
At
Unit9 we then gathered the best coders to see if we can make this work.
Our lead developer
Maciej Zasada (a.k.a. Magic) provided real code wonders and after only a
few days we had a working prototype in place.
In
Mini Maps we have married many elements which don't particularly like each other: Google Maps,
Flash and Facebook. We incorporated real-time multiplayer and physics, local weather data, individual
cars, racing tracks and sounds effects. As if that was not enough, we then had the task of making this
work on every computer on the web – a mammoth task, to say the least.
Over a four months period we developed the entire game, step by step. Expert understanding the
technical limitations were essential in this particular project. At times we had to limit our creative
requirements to meet the technical possibilities, and at other times we pushed the technical limits
beyond the known territory to meet the creative demands.
This has been an entirely unique project, achievable thanks to our highly talented team.
Who knows, maybe there will be a sequel...
